A young environmental scientist, Elias, falls in love with a rising singer, Anita. But when a sinister rift appears at the bottom of the sea, a career opportunity beckons. Eventually, he chooses a profession over love and sets off on a mission to investigate a strange natural phenomenon that threatens the survival of humanity. Much later, as he ventures out into the ocean to patch the mysterious rift, he begins to wonder what if he had made a different decision? The director, who was in competition at the Rotterdam Festival, juxtaposes a drama of love and repentance with a social commentary on the passivity of society in the face of climate change.
