Faust is a young bank clerk who, though deaf, has been taught by his domineering mother to adapt entirely to the hearing world. He meets Elena, a deaf young woman with a passion for poetry who is fighting for her right to education. Their love becomes a source of strength as they face the pressures and limitations imposed by family and society. With this film, Liliana Cavani made a significant contribution to the representation of the deaf community and to promoting its integration in Italy.
