Former SS officer Max works as a night porter in a luxury hotel. One evening he encounters Lucia, a concentration camp survivor who is now the wife of a famous American conductor. Their meeting awakens long-buried memories of the war and rekindles their sadomasochistic relationship. When Max’s former colleagues try to erase the past, they set out to eliminate Lucia. The Night Porter, which shocked audiences at the time, went on to define the careers of Liliana Cavani and Charlotte Rampling.
