About the film

Sexually abused by his father as a teenager, Jan is living in Greenland with his little family and working as a nurse. He seems outwardly balanced and happy, yet remains tormented by his past. He has never told his wife about his trauma, and has a constant need for extra-marital relationships, which she quietly tolerates. As Jan and family move from to a more rugged and remote settlement in the east, he strives to become a Kalak – a "dirty Greenlander" – and slowly loses himself in the temptations of the open and collectivist culture he has chosen to escape to.

In her second feature film, Isabella Ekl̈öf cements her reputation as having a fearless eye to observe humanity's darkest corners, offering a study about fathers and trauma that is difficult to watch but also quite impossible to shake.
