After a recent accident that killed a woman and her little son, the woman’s husband and eldest son are just beginning to forget their grief and stop blaming themselves. Staying on a remote island, they both try to grasp what happened and support each other. The film subtly tells about the complicated relationship between a father and a teenage son, their path to reconciliation.

Johanas Brisingeris baigė bakalauro studijas Pietų Kalifornijos universiteto Kino ir televizijos mokykloje, Los Andžele, pradėjo režisuoti reklamas ir muzikinius klipus, už kuriuos pelnė nemažai prizų. Jo trumpametražis filmas „Prasilenkiančios širdys“ buvo apdovanotas net 18 įvairių prizų, tarp jų ir žiūrovų prizu Tarptautiniame Berlyno kino festivalyje. „Prasilenkiančios širdys“ buvo rodytas per 50 festivalių ir yra vienas labiausiai apdovanotų švedų trumpametražių filmų šį dešimtmetį. „Netikėtai“ – pirmas režisieriaus pilnametražis filmas.
