When Makoto breaks his leg, his son-in-law Yuta leaves Tokyo for a rural town in Kyushu to help out at his old-fashioned photography studio. The contrasting qualities of analogue and digital photography become a metaphor for the complexities of human relationships and the generational divide. With his family far away, Yuta keeps in touch by exchanging photographs and videos with them. The small rituals of daily life, a closeness to nature and fragments of memory come together in a quiet meditation on the passage of time and the vital role images play in our lives. Memorizu won the Best New Narrative Director Award at the Tribeca Festival.
