About the film

A group of four actresses arrive at a country house in summer. Over the course of a week, they workshop and rehearse a new historical play written by their friend.  However, this is a languid, leisurely rehearsal process and they all have other things to discuss. Wondering what each of them is bringing to the play, they ofter fill the days with personal chatter on friendship, acting, love, orphanhood and death.

Merging drama with what occasionally feels like candidly observational documentary technique, The Girls Are Alright is a generously shared ensemble piece, its shifting moods and hues dictated by group interaction, from giddily hammered revelry to confessional intimacy. Beguiling, tactile and intimate, it is a summer tale of princesses, horses, toads, a fire, a fiesta, a river and a myriad letters, as well as a delightully playful meta-fiction that revels in its femininity.
