After being forced to leave Iran, Iman lives in a refugee facility with his family. Their bleak existence consists of constant moves and the long wait to be granted a visa. In an attempt at ensuring their future in Sweden, Iman returns to wrestling despite having promised his wife that he wouldn’t. It is a decision that not only brings physical pain but also opens up wounds in his soul. A psychological drama about a man caught between suppressed desires and his duty to his family, Opponent takes an incisive look at questions of uprootedness, freedom, and tolerance.
