About the film

Severine is a beautiful young woman married to a doctor. She loves her husband dearly, but cannot bring herself to be physically intimate with him. She indulges instead in erotic fantasies to entertain her sexual desires and takes an unexpected step even for herself. Severine becomes a prostitute, working in a brothel in the afternoons while remaining chaste in her marriage. The most famous film by Buñuel creates a seamless blend of reality and fantasy making it a complex and multifaceted study of desire.
