Jens Christian is a highly competent judge and the newly appointed chairman of the Danish Emigration Board. It is he who decides to deport the poet and political activist Sergius Bliadz, a potential political refugee. After hearing the verdict, Bliadze attempts suicide, thus inadvertently inciting the minister, the media and colleagues to attack Jens Christian. In the heat of the crisis, Jens is facing another test - his fifteen-year-old son appears, whom he did not even suspect he would have. Both the personal and professional life of a judge are turning into increasing chaos, and he must fight on two fronts to get things back on track.
